Wine Rack Assembly
  Assembly Tools & Tips
  Assembly Instructions

Wine Racks Assembly Tools and Tips

Most installations of your WineRacks.com racks will only require general-purpose household tools. If you are installing a custom wine cellar you will need to read the instructions for each individual rack to see if there are any other specific tools that you will need to finish the installation. The following is a list of tools you will need during the installation of your wine racking.

Drill/Screw Gun

A corded or cordless drill / screw gun will be your primary tool in the installation of your racking unless you are installing a custom wine cellar that requires nails

Nail Gun

When you are installing a custom wine cellar that requires the use of nails for final assembly, you will need an electric or air powered nail gun using 1 ¼” to 1 3/8” 18-16 gauge Brad nails. Note: You could use a regular hammer and finish nails to do this but is not recommended.

Hammer or Rubber Mallet

It’s always good to have a hammer at your side for those times when you need to be a little persuasive. Don’t be shy our racks can take it. Note: The use of a rubber mallet might be better so you don’t mar the wood. If you do not have a rubber mallet use a block of wood between the hammer and the rack.

Screw Driver

A regular screwdriver is a good back up to the power screwdriver. You will only need this if you are installing racks that require screws for assembly.

Sandpaper

For the final touch-up you might want to use some multi-purpose sand paper. DO NOT USE SANDPAPER IF THERE IS A FINISH TO YOUR RACKING.

Level

A level may be used but is not required.

Miter Box

A miter box saw might be useful but only if it is required for the installation for custom wine racks. See individual instructions for details.

Compound Miter Saw

More Power. That’s all this does. You could easily do the job with the miter box saw above but what’s the fun in that. Remember: See individual instructions for details.

Helpful Tips for Installation of Custom Wine Racking
These tips include instructions for attaching your wine racks to the wall and are primarily for those who will be installing a Custom Designed Wine Cellar from WineRacks.com. Our do-it-yourself Premium Series Cellar Racks, as well as our Value Line Cellar Racks do not necessarily need to be attached to a wall, but for those with uneven walls/floors or in earthquake prone areas, this is a worthwhile step.

Hardware to be provided by the customer*

2 ½" to 3" long wood screws or dry-wall screws.

2"nails

1 ¼" 18 gauge Brad nails

*Note: The Value Line Cellar Racks and Premium Series Cellar Racks sold on the website will come with all the required hardware for rack assembly and are screwed together instead of nailed. You will need to provide nails to attach crown and toe kick.

  • Open all the boxes keeping the parts of each rack in separated. Don't assemble the racks just yet.

  • Read all of the assembly instructions provided with your racks prior to doing anything else

  • All the rear spacer bars (except for curved corners) need to be attached to the wall studs first. (this is an optional step for Value Line and Premium Series Racks)

  • Find the position of the wall studs.

  • Determine the position of the spacer bars (horizontal rails with notches) on the wall. Refer to the separate instructions for each rack.

  • Drill through the spacer bars and into each wall studs using a drill size smaller than the diameter of the screw thread. The notches in the spacer bars have to be aligned up and down to fit the vertical pieces.

  • The vertical pieces that look like ladders are then to be attached to the spacer bars on the wall. Refer to the separate instructions for each rack for orientation of each vertical "ladder".

  • Insert each "ladder" into the notches in the spacer bars on the wall and toe-nail to the spacer bars using 2" nails.

  • Install the front spacer bars next using 1 ¼" 18 gauge brads.

  • Assemble and install the curved corners next. Fasten the curved corners to the adjacent racks.

  • Add the toe kick to the front of all the racks.  The toe kick for the curved corner must be cut and beveled 15° to get the 30° intersections.

  • Where toe kick rails need to be spliced together bevel at 45° to hide the joint.

  • Add the crown molding to the front of the top front spacer bar.  The crown may be installed vertically.  For angled crown the crown should be ordered already beveled top and bottom beforehand. Splice together similar to the toe kick.
